Margaret Glinke
Original Paintings

Margaret Mayan Glinke (“muggs”) was born in Merrill, Michigan and graduated from Aqulnas College in Grand Rapids. Her painting technique consists of an impasto layer of gauze, sand and modeling paste, with layers of transparent acrylic washes. Representational and abstract subjects are executed in a joy filled expression. The rapidograph ink drawings are detailed renditions of homes, businesses, churches, carousel animals and Great Lakes lighthouses.

Black Tandem Carousel Horses

The two black carousel horses are harnessed together to pull a chariot decorated with a lady in a flowing gown. The PTC carved figures are decorated in red, gold and blue with gilt accents. The gray blue textured background echoes the movement the band organ would add to the ride. The 18-inch by 18-inch gold metal frame surrounds a white linen mat with a gold metallic liner.

Ascendance Acrylic Painting

When the U.S. astronauts met the Russians for their first trip to the space shuttle, Mir, I was intrigued with the bravery of these scientists. Not only would they use every technique of collecting data, but their survival skills and personal ability to bridge cultural and language difficulties, gave us hope for a better understanding of people everywhere. I hope my painting gives you a feeling of excitement in the lift-off, the work our astronauts did for science and how it can improve our lives. This 60-inch square acrylic on an impasto ground of gauze, sand and modeling paste is on heavy stretcher bars and needs no framing.
