The original inspiration for my work was a desk by Hector Guimard, on exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and the subsequent realization of how much of the craft has been forgotten. I am self taught and for the past thirty-some years, I have been challenging my ability and skill attempting to reclaim in my own work some of the forgotten craft and artistry. Throughout the years I keep coming back to the beauty and craftsmanship of that Guimard desk. Since moving to West Virginia, I have tended to work in Native Hardwoods and draw inspiration from the natural beauty surrounding my shop.
