Patty Powell has lived in and around Rangely, Colorado since moving there in the fifth grade. In 1980, with the encouragement of friends, she started painting. Having lived around animals all her life and living in the beautiful state of Colorado there was no doubt that there would either be animals or mountains—usually both—in her pictures. Patty started painting pets when friends would ask her to do one of theirs. She loves doing them and tries to catch the personality of each animal in her paintings. Portraits are a new thing for her, and she says it is truely one of the most interesting and rewarding things she has done. One of her favorites is a picture of a rancher friend whom she painted a short time before his death.
Patty has painted all kinds of wildlife, pets, horses, cattle, mountain men, Indians, portraits, and landscapes. Oils and pastels are her media.
